Premium Galaxy S5 might sport a mix of stainless steel and plastic not a full metal body

Numerous rumors have suggested that there’s a high chance the Galaxy S5 will come in a standard and a premium variant, with the latter sporting a metal body. However, a report from the Korean media says that the premium Galaxy S5 won’t feature a full metal construction; instead, the device will employ a stainless steel battery cover while having its other components made out of plastic, a move made to reduce the weight of the smartphone.

There’s no telling how much truth there is behind the new report, but it might come as disappointment to those who were expecting a fully metal Galaxy S5. But then again, if the stainless steel and plastic combo means we’ll be able to access the battery, an ability competing “metallic” phones lack, then it’s a decision we’ll certainly not be complaining against.

Premium Samsung Galaxy S5 – A Combo Of Stainless Steel and Plastic

We’ve been looking out for Samsung Galaxy S5-related info for quite a while now, and our efforts have paid off as we now have a pretty good idea of what to expect from Sammy’s upcoming flagship.

At this point, the general consensus is that we’ll have at least two Galaxy S5 versions: a regular one, made out of plastic, and a “Premium” model which might be built out of metal and come with a flexible display. The latter was rumored, at one point, to come with a diamond-like coating, but a new report straight out of Korea is claiming otherwise. Join us after the break for more.

According to the Korean media, the “Premium” version of the Galaxy S5 will be built out of metal, but not in its entirety. According to “industry sources“, the Galaxy S5 will come with a Stainless Steel battery cover, while other components of its case will be made out of plastic.

We’re not entirely sure how this works, but this decision has allegedly been made in order to reduce the weight of the device. Of course, one way to make sure the smartphone is “lighter” would be to use materials like aluminum and magnesium. Previous rumors have suggested just that, but the new report is claiming that Samsung has abandoned the idea due to undisclosed “supply chain issues”.

Well, what do you think? Does a Galaxy S5 made out of stainless steel and plastic sound appealing? Let us know in the comments section.

Samsung responds to claims of KNOX vulnerability says there’s nothing to worry about

A few security researchers recently came out with a claim that Samsung’s KNOX is susceptible to a hack that allows a malicious being to monitor data communications and access emails, and given the fact that KNOX is supposed to be a secure environment, the claim was naturally given some attention in the media. Well, Samsung has now come out with an official response to the claim, and it turns out that the issue is not in KNOX and will not present itself if KNOX is configured correctly.

According to Samsung, the “exploit uses legitimate Android network functions in an unintended way to intercept unencrypted network connections from/to applications on the mobile device,” and that it isn’t a flaw or bug in KNOX or Android; instead, it’s merely a “Man in the Middle” attack that allows access to unencrypted application data, and that KNOX offers various protections against such attacks.

It all comes down to a lot of technical jargon, which you can go through at the source link, but it seems that KNOX users have nothing to worry about as far as the security of their data is concerned.
